Save a Building Plan and Use It in Your Settlement
Create and save StoneEra building plans, find them in Buildings and separate reusable editor designs from Normal-mode materials, workers and safe access.
FAQ
Why is my Buildings list empty?
Can plans include furnishings?
What file type is used to share plans?
What do Y/H and Enter do for Copy Area?
Is the editor a finished stable system?
How do you create and find a reusable plan?
Open Building Editor, create a design and save it locally. The original building-plan announcement says saved designs appear in the settlement’s Buildings menu. If a local-design list is empty, first check that you actually saved a plan in the editor instead of merely leaving an unsaved preview open.

Later 0.9.15 notes add three starter houses beside saved plans and describe opening Building Editor from gameplay before returning to the same world. Demo 0.9.18 groups Buildings with the other Build tools. These dated changes explain why an older screenshot may show a different entry point without proving that your design was deleted.
What can the editor save, and what happens after placement?
The documented editor includes Single, Line, Plane and Box tools, height control, floor visibility and Undo/Redo; plans can include furniture and production stations. The 0.9.14.2 update adds cards with previews, dimensions, beds and block counts. Those card details help identify the intended design before you place another construction project.
- Finish the intended design and save it locally.
- Find the corresponding design in Buildings and compare its preview and dimensions.
- Select an appropriate location for the project rather than assuming every terrain shape fits.
- In Normal-mode construction, check the project’s reported research, materials and access requirements.
- Observe actual project progress and completion; seeing a plan card or a placed order alone is not the same result.
The original announcement describes villagers clearing and preparing a site, constructing the structure and then installing furnishings. Later project feedback provides specific blockers. Use the construction diagnostic if the design exists but work does not advance; an editor redesign is not automatically necessary for a missing delivery.
How are export, Copy Area and Clone different?
Portable .stoneera-building files support exporting and importing local designs. Copy Area, documented in 0.9.15, retains a chosen selection after release: Y/H adjusts its height, Enter copies it, and Save building creates a reusable local plan. Demo 0.9.18 separately describes cloning supported blocks and objects with their settings.
Keep those outcomes separate. Export/import transfers a design file; saving a plan makes it reusable; cloning supported settings is not a promise of free construction or relocating the original. For actual relocation or removal of existing objects, follow the move and deconstruct distinctions.
What should you do when a plan is missing or fails?
Check the narrowest state first: was the design saved, does its card appear, and does a placed project report a specific blocker? The developer identifies these tools as early alpha. That supports preserving the design and recording a reproducible failure, rather than treating every absent plan or awkward site as proof that the whole colony must be reset.
The sources do not establish a universal filesystem directory, complete cross-version import rules or a blueprint that bypasses the demo’s research limits. Keep a copy of important exported designs. When reporting a problem, include the installed version, Normal/Creative mode, which tool was used and whether the failure occurs before or after placing the project.
Check storage and hauling for resource delivery issues. This guide uses complete developer demo announcements through 0.9.18, checked November 6; it does not claim a personally tested design catalogue or verified full-game compatibility.
