FAQ

How long is one season at normal speed?
Nine game days. At forty real minutes per full day, uninterrupted 1× play gives six real hours per season; pauses and speed changes alter elapsed time.
Do mushrooms or pumpkins ignore Winter?
The official seasonal notes say crops pause through Winter until Spring and do not confirm an exception for those crops. Do not plan a harvest on an unverified exception.
Is one fresh cooked batch enough proof of a winter reserve?
No. Its six-game-day ideal-storage maximum is shorter than the nine-day season. Inspect batch ages and the documented non-spoiling foods instead of relying only on a total count.

How long are days, seasons and a year?

The Demo 0.9.17 calendar update sets one full game day to 40 real minutes at 1×, each season to nine game days, and the year to 36 game days. Each month has three game days; Spring begins in March. The calendar tooltip includes the month, which is more useful for planning than judging the season from the scenery alone.

At uninterrupted 1× speed, nine days therefore equal six real hours and a year equals 24 hours. That is arithmetic from the published clock, not a promise about your play session: pausing and changing simulation speed alter real elapsed time. Older saves retain their day number, clock time and crop progress before continuing at the newer pace.

Daylight also changes gradually. Summer has longer days and Winter has longer nights; a dark evening is not a separate indication that your colony is broken.

What happens to crops during Winter?

The official 0.9.16 notes say crop growth pauses through Winter until Spring. Do not plan a winter pantry around an unfinished farm automatically completing on its usual warm-season schedule. The notes do not establish a special winter exemption for mushrooms or pumpkins.

Rain moistens exposed plots; snow remains in cold conditions and melts as temperatures rise. Those observations do not supply a temperature formula or prove every field has enough water. Use the farming checklist to separate crop selection, plot creation, water and worker problems.

How should you prepare before growth stops?

Use a small sequence that produces observable checks rather than an invented universal stockpile number:

  1. Read the current calendar and identify how much growing time remains.
  2. Inspect actual farm progress instead of assuming every marked field is ready to harvest.
  3. Select the food containers and read the oldest batch’s estimated remaining life under current conditions.
  4. Separate food that must be eaten soon from the documented longer-term reserve.
  5. Inspect residents and rooms for their displayed shelter, clothing or other unmet conditions; resolve the visible requirement before extending the colony.

Fresh cooked meals have a maximum of six game days in ideal storage under 0.9.17.1. That is shorter than a nine-day winter, so a newly prepared batch is not, by itself, evidence of a whole-winter reserve. Other food types have their own limits. Moving meals into another container does not reset their age.

After F1 Cooking, the documented preservation chains are smoking meat or fish at a Cooking stove and drying berries or blueberries at a Drying rack. The 0.9.17 notes identify these preserved foods as non-spoiling in storage. Check food storage and spoilage for the distinction between maximum life, remaining batch life and reduced extra aging.

How do you know the plan is working?

A useful result is not merely a large total food count. You can identify which batches expire first, which reserve survives storage, and which resident or room condition still needs attention. Recheck as the calendar advances and the colony consumes supplies.

If growth stops in Winter, compare it with the documented seasonal rule before treating it as a bug. If food disappears, inspect spoilage notices and container ages. For another unresolved condition, preserve the version, calendar date and exact message for a focused report. Creative can fix the season without changing the settlement date, but it does not demonstrate Normal-mode survival. This guide does not invent a frost-death threshold, minimum food amount or guaranteed winter build. Start with the beginner route and check Demo updates when a later version changes these rules.
